Progressive Managers' Network LaunchesWe are delighted that the Progressive Managers' Network will launch, this Summer, in partnership with two excellent venues in Yorkshire and the Humber. The first venue in Leeds is the spectacular Marjorie and Arnold Ziff Community Centre a new and purpose built centre with excellent facilities. In Hull we are partnering with good friends at the Goodwin Development Trust where facilities are also first class. 121s - The single most effective tool for improving performance at work?I am continually surprised by the number of organisations that I work with who are exploring the ‘higher planes’ of performance management and the pursuit of excellence (using balanced scorecards, strategy maps, systems thinking and so on) who do not yet practice some of the management fundamentals, such as 121s, feedback and coaching. By getting these management basics right I believe that most organisations can make substantial improvements in performance, quickly and at low cost. Progressive Managers' Network Online Forum Opens for BusinessThe online forum is open for business at http://managerskills.informe.com You can join the forum as a non-member and will have access to the public part of the site. However further private 'members only' areas will only be made available to you if you attend a workshop. These areas provide further information and resources to help put what you learn into practice. members can also share experiences and tips as well as ask questions relating to what they have learned and are doing. Progressive Managers’ Network and Reality TV
It is no surprise that management and entrepreneurship ‘Reality’ TV (think The Apprentice and Dragon’s Den) is so dark. Good people being fired on the strength of their performance on one task; entrepreneurs being humiliated by ‘Dragons’ because they are not experts in their product or service AND in how it should be marketed AND in the financial history and planned future of their cherished business. 'It's this constant battle with who you really are, and who you want to be that makes The Apprentice such an emotional rollercoaster. It sucks out your energy and it depletes your emotions.' It sucks out your energy and it depletes your emotions... Is this really a price that has to be paid to be successful as a manager? Well only in the land of Reality TV. |
